SA-Engineers has been involved in a number of commercial projects. Below are some explanations of a few of our projects.

Landmark Theatre, Syracuse, NY   –   2012

09-3142 - Landmark Theatre - Syracuse (2) - 2011  Project includes renovations, structural repairs, stage house addition, and office addition to the historic downtown theater building. We were responsible for structural design and construction    administration.  Our design included a demolition sequence plan of the existing stage house while preserving the historic façade and theatre structures.  It also involved designing a larger and taller  (7,000 sq. ft.) stage house addition with full basement, stage, grid iron, loading gallery, and fly gallery framing.  The existing office area roof was removed and converted into a third floor (2,500 sq.  ft.) of additional office space with a new roof structure added above.  The existing theatre auditorium roof trusses, and framing were reinforced to accommodate snow drift load caused by the taller  stage house.

YWCA,Cortland,NY– 2011

This project includes the demolition of the existing additions and design of a 28,500 sq. ft. two (2) story building connected to the existing YWCA main building.  The addition also has a full height  basement. The roof construction consists of steel joists bearing on structural steel girders supported by steel tube columns.  The first and second floors are concrete over composite metal deck  bearing on composite structural steel beams and girders. The basement floor has multiple grade variations and ramps.  All exterior walls are light gauge metal studs on reinforced concrete foundation  walls. The first floor was designed as a gym/fitness area and the second floor was designed as a basketball/volleyball court with high ceiling heights.

Aspen Dental Office Building, Dewitt, NY- 2011

Project includes the design of a 45,000 sq. ft., three (3) story building.  Roof construction consists of roof steel joists bearing on structural steel girders supported by steel tube columns.  Second and    third floors are concrete over composite metal deck bearing on composite structural steel beams and girders.  The first floor is slab on grade construction.  Due to the presence of poor soil conditions  the complete structure is bearing on wood piles.  All exterior walls are light gauge metal stud on reinforced concrete grade beams spanning between pile caps.

One Group Offices, 706 North Clinton Street, Syracuse, NY


This project entailed renovation of a 36,000 Sq. Ft 1940s era factory into new office spaces, utilizing review of historical steel framing code capacities, in conjunction with new framing design. New mezzanines with open office space were added on new structural steel beams, connected to existing columns.  In addition new entry canopies and a two story signature conference room tower were integrated into the structure. Existing foundations were investigated and expanded to increase capacity below these elements. Existing openings on the building perimeter were changed to accommodate the new architectural office layout by utilizing infills and new structural support. Existing roof framing was analyzed to allow installation of solar panels on the existing saw tooth monitor window roof framing. The result of open collaboration on this project between St. Germain & Aupperle, MacKnight Architects, and Heuber-Breuer was a beautiful new open office space taking full advantage of the natural lighting schemes and structural systems employed in this era of factory construction.
